A Perfect Friday Evening

Johnny Depp is the most fantastic choice for Willy Wonka. I was a little uneasy when I saw the Michael Jackson-esque look he was sporting, along with the child-like high pitched and over-pronounciated voice, yet somehow, it all snapped together. The colours on the screen popped out, the casting was fabulous, and the Umpa Lumpas were something reminiscent of a shroomed-up Burton. I thoroughly enjoyed it, as did Kat and Jenn, who came along for the grand opening.
After the movie, we had 16 minutes to spare before the release of Half-Blood Prince. Having already ordered my copy I wasn't worried about getting one, but I was curious to see what the crowd at Chapter's Square One was like.
CRAZY.
That is the only word to describe it. Crowds were lined up throughout the entire store: so much so that we could not walk.
There were kids and adults dressed up like Harry Potter, baubles hanging from the ceiling tiles, and hundreds of people sipping sample-sized iced green teas.
At 12:01 the books were brought in on trolleys, escorted by disgruntled-looking uniformed policemen.
"Harry Potter Six is officially on sale!" rang a woman's voice over the loudspeaker.
A cheer erupted from the crowd. Those who had wristbands pressed forward eagerly while twenty-odd cashiers prepared themselves behind their tills.
A woman turned to us.
"All this hoopla for a book. I mean, buy it tomorrow!"
Completely offended and biting back questions about what she was doing there, we pushed our way around the store to see others' reactions.
Behind one stack of books, we actually discovered a girl on the verge of tears, whining to her friend that she didn't have a wristband and therefore was not going to get her book tonight because they would be sold out.
Smirking, we went to the Starbucks counter to see if we could conjure up some sort of green tea infusion. That was where I met a lovely girl who allowed me to hold her copy and read the back while she ordered a coffee.
I was completely satisfied. I have waited almost two years for this book, and I will not spoil it for myself. I refuse to read any reviews, visit any websites, or listen to the radio. When my book comes I will read two chapters a night, savouring and enjoying the experience. Because judging from the time it took Rowling to write this latest installment, adding the fact that she now has a newborn, I know that I will be itching for the seventh book before long.
